The NTSC to PAL conversion was the ugly kind. QTGMC + srestore fixed it surprisingly well.
Except for the credits, which came out jerky, so I reanimated them. Now they’re the smoothest credits ever.

The subtitles didn’t need much editing. The timing was a bit off – shifting and adding lead out was necessary.

This is released under the label “LazyBums” because the subtitles didn’t get the usual treatment. JTV’s translation needs a lot more editing to be tolerable. The timing is not good either. Properly fixing all of this requires more effort than I want to spend.

The DVDs were deinterlaced with qtgmc and the luma levels corrected with smoothlevels (luma was going way over 235).

I considered adding the lyrics from Frostii’s release, but changed my mind while writing the commit message. The translation is kinda shitty anyway, and the romanisation is wrong in a few places.

Almost all the changes I made to the subtitles can be seen here: https://github.com/dubhater/RistoranteParadiso/commits/master
Some trivial changes to episode 1 don’t appear in the diffs because I made them a few months before I started to use git.

The filtering:
– IVTC
– dehalo
– edge polishing

Funny thing: the newspapers seen in this series have articles in Spanish. The series is supposed to be set in Rome.

The DVD has an official English translation. It’s not quite HK level, but it’s pretty iffy at times. The plan was to find a Korean speaker and have him/her check the translation, but that never happened, so my own edits will have to do. (I don’t understand a word of Korean.) I wouldn’t mind making a v2, if anybody volunteers to check the translation.

The subtitles are scene-timed.

My first encounter with a blended DVD. Oh, how I raged…

I gave up on this project once (possibly twice) because nothing I tried would work properly with this fucked up DVD. Well, thanks to OnDeed, I know what to do with such sources now.

The DVD is also letterboxed, hence the low resolution.

The subtitles were reportedly translated from a Dutch DVD. I corrected some weird phrases, split some lines like this: “– blah\N– bleh”, scene-timed. There are some Japanese hardsubs (when they speak another language). I synced the English translation with those hardsubs.

I suspect many lines could still be improved by a jpn->eng translator. (Volunteers welcome.)

The translator(s) messed up a number of terms. For example, they used “lieutenant” instead of “assistant inspector” (original: “keibuho”), “lieutenant” instead of “superintendent” (original: “keishi”), “inspector” instead of “medical examiner” (original: “kansatsui”).

In some places, it felt like they picked the first translation from a dictionary without considering the other possibilities.

All the changes I’ve made to the subtitles can be seen at https://github.com/dubhater/YakushijiRyouko/commits/master

This is my first release ever to feature hardsubbing (lol). The second episode had “Premier dossier” instead of “Deuxième dossier” in the title. I just /had/ to correct this mistake. I used assrender. http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/131430

The DVDs have visible banding in some scenes. I’ve done what I could to fix that, using gradfun3.

I hate wordpress.
